Too Few Women Leaders

Why...

Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, looks at why a smaller percentage of women than men reach the top of their professions. In this TED video she offers 3 powerful pieces of advice to women aiming for the C-suite. Her advise is extremely valuable for women entrepreneurs as well. The Real Secret to Getting Enough Done

Do You Know Your Powerful Natural Pace?

Instead of not having enough time to get everything done, let's look at how you can get enough done and feel genuinely satisfied with your results. The secret is embedded in your energy!

For years, I have helped clients leverage their leadership with a core and fail-safe strategy - manage your energy, not time. Recently, I listened to Kristin Howe talk about this inside-out approach in the context of 3 energy types. Knowing your primary type and staying in sync with it frees you to manage your energy so you get enough done and experience genuine satisfaction.

3 Energy Types...Which One Are You?

Which type best describes the way your energy runs at work, home or play? To pinpoint your primary energy type, picture how the dog associated with each type behaves.

  1. Long Distance Runner | Siberian Husky (sled dog)
    • Endurance is your strength.
    • You have strong steady energy.
    • You need less time to warm up and less time to recover because you do not have a lot of energy bursts.
    • Consistent schedules work better for you.
    • Your peak performance depends on you pacing yourself with consistent scheduling that enables you to get enough done.
  2. Sprinter | Greyhound
    • Your energy comes in high bursts.
    • In short periods of time you are extremely productive.
    • You do not need much warm up time and are a quick starter.
    • Exhausted when done, you need serious recovery time.
    • Your peak performance depends on you taking huge breaks (doing something that does not require much of your energy) between your high energy activities so you get enough done.
  3. Cross-Trainer | Border Collie
    • Your energy flows in action bursts with mini-recoveries in between bursts.
    • Throughout the day you are consistently in motion.
    • You flow through warm up several times before initial action bursts.
    • You fully recover only when you are completely 'down and out'.
    • Your peak performance depends on you taking lots of mini-breaks in a broad (so you don't get bored) flexible schedule that allows you to get enough done.

Getting in sync with the natural flow of your energy frees you to experience work and life at a pace that is most productive for you. So let go of the 24/7 expectation of yourself. No one can run their highest energy level 100% of the time.

You can perform at peak levels consistently, however, if you manage your energy. That is the real secret to getting enough done and feeling completely satisfied with the results.

Shift into the natural flow of your primary energy type. I can't wait to hear your comments on your type and how managing your energy - not time! - works for you.

Transforming Leaders Through Travel

Torguguero Park, Costa Rica

Inspiration Leads to Innovation

Travel transforms who we are as business owners and leaders. Vacations that take us away from our familiar environments and expose us to new exciting experiences shift our way of seeing and thinking about the world. Our global perspectives naturally expand, and we gain new awareness of what is possible. Even virtual and vicarious vacations to distant destinations free our mind, body and spirit to enjoy a well-earned escape from the overload of work that surrounds us. When we return from our real or vividly imagined vacation, we feel refreshed and satisfied - ready to re-engage in business and leadership challenges with a greater sense of commitment, clarity and focus. This quickens our effectiveness. With more ease we craft solutions that produce the results we want and need.

Experience Freedom Now

Need some downtime now? Take a free virtual vacation to the Maasai Mara in Kenya. This wildlife reserve of vast open grasslands hosts the world's greatest natural spectacle - the Great Wildebeest Migration of the Serengeti. It is also the heartland of the Maasai, semi-nomadic tribes with centuries-old traditions and rituals that keep them in harmony with the earth, wildlife and climate change. Discover what their gentle yet wild spirits and enduring decisions teach savvy women leaders today.

You Know You're Out of Balance When...

Is This You?

If you feel out of control, you are not just out of balance – you are out of harmony...with yourself, your loved ones, your work and the rest of your life. What to do? Well, start by taking a fresh look at where you are. Ask yourself: "Where in my body, mind and spirit do I feel out of balance?" Then notice what your body, mind, and spirit have to say. Listen and learn.

This “I am here” perspective makes it easier to see what small steps can lead you back to balance. Playful 1-minute practices can make a real difference in how balanced you feel. Ultra-busy highly effective leaders know this.

My clients – high powered and high potential women entrepreneurs, executives, and nonprofit leaders – routinely engage in simple balance practices that led them to sustainable success with greater ease at work, home and play. In this e-book I share with you 10 one-minute life balance practices my clients find to be the most useful, effective and easiest to practice, practice, practice.

If you are ready for more satisfying life balance, you are not alone. And…you are in excellent and exceptional company.

Is This You?

Your Body, Mind & Spirit Are Out of Harmony When...

  • You go to bed tired and wake up tired.
  • Worry keeps you up at night and anxious all day.
  • You feel physically tired, mentally exhausted, and emotionally weary.
  • You try to manage time, but not your energy.
  • You expect to get everything on your "to do" list done.
  • What is important at work gets less of your attention than what is urgent but not important.
  • Thoughts about work keep you from being fully present with your children, family, and friends.
  • Exposure to a daily diet of negative news feeds your negative thinking and conversations - keeping you from noticing how much time you spend with people who drain your energy.
  • Fear drives your decisions - you react instead of choosing to be more proactive.
  • You worry more than 10 minutes a day.
  • You have no quiet alone time - free of your cell phone, computer, and other 24/7 technology.
  • Working day and night has become so “normal” you think it is a lifestyle.
  • Personal priorities aren’t even on your "to do" list.
  • You believe you can actually get everything done.
  • Your work is great, yet you don’t feel confident about it or yourself.
  • You don’t enjoy life outside your business or work.
  • Your business goals are out of sync with your personal values.
  • You provide for everyone around you, maintain your motivation to accomplish goals and objectives, and wonder how you can care for yourself and have others reciprocate.

My e-book continues to emerge...(slightly out of sequence)
